About Movers Bay Area

Movers Bay Area helps people pick a local mover in the nine Bay Area counties: who has the strongest reviews in their city, what customers mention, and what a move really costs.

Who runs this site

Movers Bay Area is an independent publisher. It is not a moving company, doesn't move anything, doesn't take a cut of bookings, and is not affiliated with any mover listed on it. It is run by the same owner as Moving Pianos, a guide to moving pianos.

How movers are listed and ranked

Listings come from Google Maps business data, collected through DataForSEO and refreshed monthly (last refresh: September 27, 2026). A mover appears on a city page when its business address is within that city's area and it has at least 5 Google reviews. Truck rental counters, storage-only and shipping businesses are left out. Each city page sorts movers into three groups:

1. Top rated: At least 4.7 stars from 100 or more Google reviews.
2. Well reviewed: At least 4.5 stars from 30 or more Google reviews.
3. Also listed: Other movers here with at least 5 Google reviews. Fewer reviews, or a lower rating: check them more closely.

Within a group, a high rating on more reviews ranks higher. Nobody pays to be listed or ranked. If sponsored listings are ever added, they'll be labeled and kept apart from the ranked list. Ratings and review counts are Google's; this site doesn't write reviews and doesn't vouch for any mover.

The "Reviews mention" tags group the review themes Google shows for each business (for example "careful handling" or "punctuality") into plain labels, with the number of mentions. When reviews mention damage, lateness or price surprises often enough, the listing says so.

Licenses

We don't verify licenses. When a mover publishes its California permit number on its Google profile, the listing shows it as self-reported. Every listing links to the official license lookup so you can check it yourself.

How prices are written

Hourly rates are ranges drawn from Bay Area movers' own published prices, cited on Bay Area moving costs. Always get the rate, crew size and minimum hours in writing.
